Updated January 2012 – How important is a company’s reputation when purchasing structured settlement payments from tort victims? JG Wentworth is the largest company in the structured settlement factoring industry, but it’s important to note this company’s Better Business Bureau record. JG Wentworth has done a good job over the past 2 years of cleaning up their record. This article was originally written in 2008 and JGW had over 40 BBB complaints. Looking at their record now, they have just under 30. This is impressive with all that has happened in the 4 years since this article was written.
Over the past four years, JG Wenworth has filed for bankruptcy, laid off over half its workforce, and just recently merged with it’s biggest competitor Peachtree Settlement Funding. Usually with a lot of negative press, a company’s Better Business Bureau record suffers, but not JG Wentworth.
JG Wentworth has received 14 complaints over the last 12 months and 29 complaints over the past 36 months. The increased number of complaints within the last 12 months could be due to the merger with Peachtree. I would suspect that they are doing almost double the business, and most of it is being funneled through JG Wentworth, not Peachtree.
What is the increase in complaints attributed to?

I am in the process of trying to recieve the funds promised me by J.G.Wentworth. It had now been 30 days since the judge signed the paperwork. I was considering selling an annuity to J.G. Wentworth, but upon receiving the contract paperwork from them, discovered that they wanted such information as permission to do a credit check, access to all my bank account information, access to my past years’ tax returns, permission for them to have power of attorney, and permission to make a stamp of my signature! To me, that smells like too much information. Why would they need all that?

JG Wentworth violates quite a few “laws” including good faith law. I have been lied to repeatedly, and when I call, I am told that everyone is in different departments. The lady on the phone said she was in sales, and yet not the same department as someone else in sales. How does this work? Isn’t the sales team all in the sales department? I was told that things would be finished by the end of May. Here it is, almost end of July, and still no resolution. This company is as bad, if not worse, than Peachtree Settlement

I have had nothing but trouble from the beginning..From rude csr’s, to getting misled that I could get advancement, then not getting one..Went to court Thursday and was told would have the funds in 1-2 days…Finally I faxed over order myself yesterday, and now will be 48 hours from today…JG does not keep their word on anything so far!!
